He has attended several International conferences and published twelve books in the field of Tamil culture and literature. He is one of the well-known Tamil Folklorist. He produced several Folk Dramas at the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Currently Dr Bala is the Head of Tamil studies -Distance Education in Tamil: BA and MA programs, at the Annamalai University, Canada Campus.
Dr Bala continuously writes articles in Tamil weekly newspapers on the following subjects: Canadian education systems, parent’s contribution to their children education and Tamil culture & literature. He participates in various community organizations and hold executive positions in several Societies. He is an active executive member of the Sri Lankan Graduate Association of Canada and Canadian Tamil Parents Association.
He is the Patron of International Movement for Tamil Culture. He is being invited as Chief Guest for several Tamil cultural functions in GTA. Dr Bala has received several Awards from the Community Organizations and Government for his dedicated and excellent community services. .
He works as a Settlement Worker in School (SWIS) since 1999, in Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute, Winchester Public School and Regent Park/Duke of York Public School. As he works in the Primary and High schools for the last nine years he has wide knowledge about the challenges face by the students and parents and published a book entitled “ Parents Contribution for their Children’s’ Education” in 2009. Dr Bala has become a Tamil Language Instructor in the ILE Program of the East York Board of Education since 1996. He was a team member of the Tamil work books for ILE Program in 1996 and brought out seven books for Grade one to Grade seven. Dr Bala’s commitment to Tamil language teaching and writing is evident in his ongoing advocacy for enhancing the standard Tamil workbooks for TDSB ILE Program.
